Our technical program theme was “Forging the Future of Transportation”.

The theme incorporates the image of a forge — a symbol of Birmingham’s historic roots in the steel industry which shaped our past.

Now, Birmingham’s future has been forged from a new focus on medicine, banking, and service industries. In much the same way, our profession is challenged to modify its vision and practices to meet the future challenges of a highly mobile society.

Our hope is that the 2009 SDITE Annual Meeting inspired attendees to creative, new approaches to their daily engineering and planning assignments.
